Jeff Patterson

Chief Executive Officer
Jeff Patterson joined Safari Books Online from CMP Technology LLC, where he served in a number of senior executive positions over nine years. His most recent position was president of the Business Technology Group that included leading IT media brands such as InformationWeek, TechWeb and the Web 2.0 Conference. Prior to CMP, he co-founded Beacon Technology Partners LLC, a market research firm specializing in measuring IT audience behavior and attitudes, and held management positions in media, manufacturing and advertising companies including Cahners Publishing Company (now Reed Business Information); National Semiconductor; Foote, Cone & Belding/San Francisco; Raychem Corporation; and Pinne, Garvin & Hock/San Francisco.

Dennis Kilian

Vice President, Sales
For more than 25 years, Dennis has served in sales, general management and consulting capacities in the technology sector. Prior to joining Safari Books Online, he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for WiLine Networks. Additionally, he has held several senior-level positions including various management positions with AT&T; Vice President of Sales for TELUS Corporation in Canada; President and CEO of Professional Sales Learning Center; Vice President and GM for a software division of Trintech, Inc; and Vice President of Enterprise Services for NEC Solutions America. Dennis earned a BSME from the United States Naval Academy and a Master's in Business Administration from St. Mary's College.

Steve Kolenda

Chief Financial Officer
Steve Kolenda has served as CFO for Safari since July 2001. Steve has worked in educational publishing for over 20 years and has held senior finance positions in the corporate, college and professional publishing units of Pearson.

Paige Mazzoni

Vice President, Marketing
Paige Mazzoni joined Safari Books Online as VP of Marketing in April 2008, bringing more than 20 years of experience in high tech marketing, corporate strategy, business development, and product management. As the VP of Marketing, Paige owns responsibility for all aspects of marketing and communications. Most recently, Paige served as the Executive Vice President of Marketing, Product Management and Corporate Strategy for the Nelson Family of Companies, HRHome, and WorkforceLogic. Previously, she served as the Vice President of Marketing for MindBox, Director at SBU Marketing, and Chief of Staff for Fair Isaac. She has also worked in the global marketing division at Sybase and in marketing and recruiting divisions at Oracle. Paige has a BA in History from Stanford University and serves on multiple community advisory boards, including the Board of Legal Aid of Sonoma County, the Stanford University Athletic Department, and the Buck Cardinal Board.

Chip Pettibone

Vice President, Research and Development
Chip Pettibone has served as Safari's VP Product Management for the past 3 years. Chip has served in a variety of product management, business development, sales and marketing positions throughout his career in the IT industry. Prior to joining Safari, Chip was CEO of Red Bridge Interactive, a developer of web content management solutions. Before Red Bridge, Chip led the effort to build and release Context Media's first two versions of enterprise content integration products and established strategic partnerships with major technology firms, serving as VP of Product Management as well as VP of Business Development. He spent seven years with Electronic Book Technologies (acquired by Inso), a pioneer in SGML and XML-based electronic publishing applications, where he held a number of senior product management and sales positions. Chip began his career with Hewlett-Packard, holding several marketing and indirect channels positions in HP's computer business. He has a BA from Beloit College and MBA from the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern).

CJ Rayhill

Senior Vice President, Product Management and Technology
CJ Rayhill joins Safari Books Online from O'Reilly Media, where she served as Chief Information Officer for the last 7 years. CJ spent the majority of her career doing software development and technology management in the financial services and healthcare industries prior to joining O'Reilly in 2000. She has worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Citibank, Travelers Insurance Company, Zenith Insurance and a Workers' Compensation Clinic start-up company called U.S. Healthworks. She is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, having attended Annapolis with the first-ever class of women in 1980 and served as a geophysics officer in the Navy. She also holds an MBA degree from the University of South Florida.

Mike Violano

Vice President, Reseller Management
Mike's career in publishing has spanned 25 years and has included executive positions in publishing, sales, rights, and International business development with leading online, professional and reference publishers including Prentice Hall, Macmillan USA, Pearson Education, and Hungry Minds. In the 1990's, Mike worked with hardware companies to bring professional e-book content to users of desktop, laptop and handheld computers. He has formed and managed overseas joint venture publishing companies in India, Canada, and Australia and established local IT publishing in Spanish, Japanese, and French languages. Mike also has experience in e-rights negotiation, international copyright protection and anti-piracy, digital rights management, and e-learning product development. He holds a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology and is also a published author.
